Ksheerdhara is a form of Shirodhara where medicated milk is poured in a continuous stream over the forehead (Ajna Chakra). It is a calming Bahya Snehan therapy used primarily for conditions associated with Pitta and Vata imbalances.
Preparation of the patient by light massage (Abhyanga) of the head and body with suitable oils.
Selection of medicated milk (based on the condition) and vessel (Dharapatra).
Ensure proper equipment setup and maintenance of temperature.
The patient lies supine on the Droni (wooden massage table).
Lukewarm medicated milk is poured in a rhythmic stream on the forehead from a fixed height.
Wipe excess milk, rest for 15-20 minutes.
Avoid exposure to cold, wind, or stress.
Light, warm food is recommended after the session.
Ksheerdhara has a deeply relaxing effect on the mind and nervous system. It pacifies aggravated Pitta and Vata, improves sleep, soothes headaches, and promotes emotional balance.
