Prishta Vasti Therapy

Prishta Vasti Therapy

Prishta Vasti is a specialized Ayurvedic oil-retention therapy that targets the spinal region. The therapy involves pooling warm medicated oil over the back using a dough dam, allowing deep absorption and therapeutic effects on the vertebrae, nerves, and muscles. Prishta Vasti is highly effective for spinal disorders, chronic back pain, stiffness, and nerve-related conditions.

This therapy is particularly beneficial for:
Cervical and lumbar spondylosis
Herniated disc and sciatica
Muscle spasms and stiffness
Spinal cord injuries and nerve weakness
Postural imbalances and chronic stress

Prishta Vasti primarily balances Vata dosha, reducing dryness, nerve compression, and degeneration while nourishing the spine and muscles.

Procedure of Prishta Vasti Therapy

  • Purva Karma (Pre-Treatment Preparation)

The patient is made to lie face down on the Droni (therapy table). The affected spinal region is gently massaged with warm oil. A dough ring (made from black gram flour) is placed around the spinal area, ensuring a leak-proof boundary.

  • Pradhana Karma (Main Procedure)

Warm medicated oil is carefully poured into the dough reservoir. The oil remains in place for 30–40 minutes, allowing deep absorption. Periodic reheating ensures the oil maintains a therapeutic temperature. Gentle massage and tapping movements may be performed to enhance penetration.

  • Paschat Karma (Post-Treatment Care)

The oil is gently removed, and the area is cleaned with warm towels. The patient is advised to rest for 30 minutes post-therapy. Herbal decoctions and a light diet may be recommended to support recovery.
