Podikizhi

Podikizhi, also known as Choorna Swedam, is an effective form of treatment among the many ancient Ayurvedic practices. This Ayurvedic sweat-inducing technique includes fomentation, sudation, and steam treatments. It is used to treat a variety of neurological disorders, arthritic conditions, obesity, sciatica, lumbago, and other painful diseases.

About Podikizhi Therapy

Podikizhi makes use of medicated powders for the poultice and is an Ayurvedic treatment that can be used with or without oil.

Powdered roots and barks of medicinal plants are tied into a bolus in a sterile piece of cloth. The herbs are chosen based on the condition being treated. The herbal powders are first placed in a sterile bowl and fried in various herbal oils depending on the type of treatment, before being tied into a bolus. A number of these boluses are formed.

Following that, a pan with oil is heated on the stove over low heat. To begin the treatment process, the bolus is heated or dipped in hot oil and rubbed on the affected area of the body. It is also used without oil when dry heat is required.

The treatment aids in the reduction of joint tenderness, heaviness, stiffness, pain, and inflammation. This is accomplished by increasing blood circulation, releasing trapped nerves, improving joint mobility, and decreasing swelling.
